Tell us about yourself, your company, and your role.

Javelin Wealth Management is a Singapore based and owned wealth management company. It was set up by me in 2003 with the objective of providing straightforward, transparent, fee-based wealth management and advice to High Net Worth individuals and their families. 22 years later, we are still doing exactly that.

What is wealth management to you?

Wealth Management is more than just being about management investments and portfolios. Of course that is important, and it’s critical to ensure that our clients’ assets are working hard and generating returns. But it’s also about working with our clients to answer the question about what is the money for, and what does that money need to do over time to make sure that those objectives are met? That question can take in a lot of different factors: funding a lifestyle after retirement, legacy planning for the family, planning for the passing of assets from one generation to the next, and ensuring that there are structures in place – if needed – to help do that efficiently and cost effectively. Wealth management is therefore about understanding your clients plans, today and tomorrow and helping those plans to be met.

Three key lessons from the past three years (career & personal):

1. Focus on the long-term. It’s easy to get distracted by the day to day market noise and news flow.

2. Build a great team. Find yourself a great business partner and build a great team. Make sure that team works together to deliver a great service to you clients.

3. Keep in touch. Relationships with family, friends, colleagues and clients all need to be nurtured. When things get difficult – communicate.
