Tristan Thomas, CFA
Director of Portfolio Strategy, 50 South Capital
Tristan Thomas is the Director of Portfolio Strategy at 50 South Capital’s Hedge Fund Investment Team, a subsidiary of Northern Trust Corporation. Responsible for portfolio construction and monitoring, he is a member of the Senior Investment Committee, and a voting member of Northern Trust’s Investment Policy Committee.Prior to joining 50 South Capital, Tristan was a Strategy Head at Mesirow Advanced Strategies and began his career at Lehman Brothers. He received a B.A. in political science and international relations from the University of Wisconsin and holds an MBA from New York University. Tristan currently lives in Chicago with his wife and two children.
John McCareins, CAIA, CIMA
Managing Executive, Head of Asia Pacific Asset Management
John leads Northern Trust’s Asset Management business across the Asia Pacific region.  He is responsible for strategic growth initiatives and activities including investment strategy, relationship management and sales teams based in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Australia, as well as global equity portfolio management and dealing from Hong Kong. John serves on a number of Northern Trust leadership committees such as the Asset Management Operating Group and the APAC Strategic Philanthropic Committee. 
 
John previously was the head of the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) practice focused on Retirement Assets, within Northern Trust’s Multi-Manager Solutions group. He led a team that oversaw multi-asset programmes with more than US$60 billion in assets for asset owners globally.  John’s previous experience also includes client relationship management with Northern Trust and mutual fund and sub-advisory product development at T. Rowe Price.  John earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Northwestern University and his Masters of Business Administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. John is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation and has attained the Certified Investment Management Analyst designation. John is also an Accredited Asset Management Specialist designee and a Certified Treasury Professional designee
